NFL Hall of Famer to have another surgery to remove blood clots

Deion Sanders needs another surgery to remove blood clots, and this one will force the Colorado football coach to miss the Pac-12 Conference’s media day on Friday.

“I apologize that I’m not going to be at the Pac-12 media day – to have another surgery tomorrow,” Sanders said Wednesday on his son Deion Jr.’s YouTube channel. “One in my leg as well as a removal of the clots.”

Sanders also had surgery to remove blood clots in his thigh and below his knee June 23, a procedure that found another blood clot in his right leg. Thursday’s will also straighten out the two toes on his left foot, he said.

“Let me tell you this, this is how the devil works – he thinks that if he stops my mobility, he can stop my ability. He can’t do that,” Sanders said.

At his peak, the Dallas Cowboys Hall of Fame cornerback was one of the fastest players in the NFL as a lockdown cornerback and electric kick returner. But since 2021 as the coach of Jackson State, “Coach Prime” has dealt with leg and foot problems, prompting him to miss three games that season and undergo multiple surgeries, some to amputate his toes.

Colorado is expected to be one of the must-watch teams with Sanders in charge for his first season. After an offseason of tremendous roster shuffling, Sanders has started to build a program in his mold. The Buffaloes, who went 1-11 last season, have two winning seasons over the past 17 campaigns.

They open the year against TCU on Sept. 2.
