Shark Week officially kicks off Sunday and anyone in Athens who wants to shed some blood for a good cause can get a prize during this annual week of shark documentaries and movies.
The Athens-Clarke County Library is partnering with the American Red Cross for a blood drive on Tuesday, July 25, that falls within a week when sharks have a viewing frenzy on television outlets.
Each blood donor will receive a Red Cross Shark Week T-shirt courtesy of the Discovery Channel. Donors also receive two entries into the Adult Summer Reading Program weekly prize drawing.
Discovery started Shark Week, which has been also adopted by other networks such as the Sci-fi channel, which shows Sharknado movies.
The blood drive is 2 to 6 p.m. at the library off Baxter Street.
