A total of 1,050 units of blood were collected in the first two of five days at the 47th Annual Comic-Con Robert A. Heinlein Blood Drive, the San Diego Blood Bank said Friday.

More donors were needed in the coming days to reach the goal of 3,300 pints, said Claudine Van Gonka of the blood bank.

The drive began on Wednesday and will run through Sunday at the Manchester Grand Hyatt with all donors receiving a limited-edition Marvel Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 T-shirt, while supplies last.

Since 1976, The Robert A. Heinlein Blood Drive has partnered with the Comic-Con convention. Over the past 47 years, donors at Comic-Con have donated more than 62,825 pints of blood.

To be eligible to donate blood, donors must be at least 17 years old, weigh at least 114 pounds and be in general good health.
