The usual symptoms of a bladder infection include pain or burning sensation when urinating, cloudy or bloody urine, foul-smelling urine, an increase in the frequency of urinating, cramping or pressure in your lower abdomen or lower back. Antibiotics are usually prescribed to treat bladder infections, however, you also try certain home remedies that can help cure the infection. While antibiotics are essential to treat the infection but they can also destroy the good bacteria in the gut. Therefore, using certain home remedies can help.
Here are some home remedies that can help to treat bladder infections.
Garlic
Known to have several antibacterial properties, garlic cloves can help to reduce the symptoms of bladder infection. Chop 4-5 cloves of garlic and eat them every day for a week. You could also make a garlic pickle and eat 4-5 cloves every day.
Water
If you’re suffering from UTI, you will likely be prescribed to drink a lot of liquids. This is because it helps to flush out the bacteria from your bladder. You should drink atleast a litre of water in the morning and about 6 to 8 glasses of water all throughout the day. Water is usually recommended because it is free from caffeine and other bladder irritants.
Avoid Alcohol
Alcohol is a diuretic and makes your body dehydrated. When there’s less fluid in the system, it can lead to aggravate the infection. Also, it can increase the chances of recurrence. Therefore, it is best that you refrain from drinking alcohol.
Cranberry Juice
Drinking concentrated cranberry solutions can help to reduce the bacteria in the bladder, thereby, reducing the infection. While it might not help reduce the infection completely, it can help to alleviate it.
Baking Soda
Take half a teaspoon of baking soda and add it to a glass of water. Drink this before breakfast and it will reduce the burning sensation in the bladder.
Diet
Pay attention to your diet when you’re suffering from a bladder infection. Don’t consume food that can aggravate the condition. Consume fruits and vegetables for a few days and avoid proteins.
