The need for blood is always urgent, especially during the summer months. To answer that need, Transfiguration Lutheran Church, 14176 N. Fenton Rd., just north of Sagebrush Cantina in Fenton Township, is sponsoring a Community Blood Drive on Wednesday, Aug. 9 from 1:30 to 6 p.m. One in seven patients entering a hospital requires blood products, according to Versiti Blood Center of Michigan, host of this blood drive. Blood donations help patients of all ages, including accident and burn victims, heart surgery and organ transplant patients and those who are battling cancer, as well as children with sickle cell anemia. Every pint has the potential to save three lives. In Michigan, age eligibility includes16 year olds with parental consent, with no age limit for older adults. For more specific donor eligibility requirements, contact Versiti Blood Center of Michigan, 866-642-5663, or your medical provider. “We welcome new donors, as well as walk-in donors,” said Marlene Leaman, local blood drive chairperson for this TLC event. “However, we encourage people to make an appointment ahead of time to make the process even more convenient.” To make an appointment, go to donate.michigan.versiti.org.
