Driver With High Blood-Alcohol Readings Charged In Enfield Crash Case

ENFIELD, CT — A lengthy investigation into a February crash which left a person with serious injuries resulted in a warrant for the arrest of the vehicle driver, which was executed Thursday, police said.
Tyler Campbell, 29, was charged with second-degree assault with a motor vehicle. Bond was set at $150,000.
On Feb. 10 at 7:37 p.m., an accident with injuries was reported on St. James Avenue by Ridge Road. Two occupants involved in the crash had left the scene on foot, but were located and detained on St. James Avenue, Police Chief Alaric Fox said.

A 2001 Honda Civic, which had been driven over a curb and into a fire hydrant, was found facing northbound on St. James. Campbell acknowledged being the driver and appeared to be intoxicated. After failing standard field sobriety tests with readings of .2100 and .2152, Campbell was initially charged with operating under the influence and failure to drive in proper lane, Fox said.
A passenger in Campbell’s car had sustained injuries to his head, left arm and both knees as a result of the crash, and was taken by ambulance to an area hospital.

“As the seriousness of the medical injuries became clearer, an arrest warrant was also sought for the charge of assault with a motor vehicle,” Fox said.
