HIV/AIDS infections surge in Chile

Highest rates clock in the 25-34 age group, with 40% of total infection toll.

By regions, the increased HIV/AIDS cases have been reported in Arica and Parinacota, with 49.7 cases per 100,000 inhabitants.

Major causes are multifactorial, so specialists from the University of Chile blame it to the increased testing after the Covid-19 pandemic.

Others blame on the lack of sex education among young people and the non-use of contraceptive methods.

It is estimated that 84,000 Chilean are presently living with AIDS.
