Virginians can now choose to add blood type to driver’s license, IDs

Virginians can now include their blood type on their driver’s license and state IDs.

A small icon on the front of the ID will indicate the blood type. Residents are responsible for providing the information and making sure it is correct. A news release from the Department of Motor Vehicles states that the measure will assist first responders in emergencies.

The choice to add the blood type will be offered when residents renew or replace their IDs online or in person.
