The Universal Hip-Hop Museum and New York Blood Center teamed up to host a blood drive campaign at the museum in celebration of the 50th anniversary of hip-hop.
The One Blood, One Love campaign is raising awareness to the value of giving diverse blood while paying homage to the diversity of hip-hop. It’s a weeklong event through which organizers are hoping to get as much blood as possible.
“We all agreed we needed to do something to celebrate this monumental moment for hip-hop, and also bring light to the beauty of our New York City diversity and the importance of a diverse blood supply,” said Yadira Navarro, director of community and stakeholder relations for the NY Blood Center.
Navarro says the number of donors declined once COVID-19 hit, particularly for first-time donors.
Staff at the blood center say that it only takes one hour to give blood. All who donate this week at the Universal Hip-Hop Museum will receive a One Blood, One Love T-shirt and will be entered into a sweepstakes for a chance to win a pair of Bronx Origins Air Force 1s.
