Trail of blood found at scene of woman’s murder near Fort Calhoun

Previous coverage in video aboveA trail of blood started the investigation into the homicide of a woman near Fort Calhoun.Deputies were called to the home of 71-year-old Linda Childers on Aug. 14, a little after 1 a.m.According to court documents, Childers’ stepdaughter found her body on the kitchen floor with blood around her body, and that the trail of blood led out to the back porch.The stepdaughter also reported Childers’ purse and vehicle were gone and a drawer from a dresser in her bedroom appeared to “have been rummaged through,” according to court documents.According to court documents, the blood trail started outside on a bench on the back porch. Investigators also found a rock on the porch.At the time, authorities put out an alert for a stolen 2010 burgundy Chevrolet Equinox.
