‘Pint For A Pint’: Donate Blood To Get Beer Voucher At This Wayne Pub

WAYNE, NJ — Local breweries are partnering with New Jersey Blood Services to raise a glass (and an arm) for blood donation this summer, including a pub and restaurant in Wayne Township.

More than 60 North Jersey establishments are participating in the second year of the “Pint for a Pint”campaign — offering free or discounted beer vouchers for people who donate blood at certain drives or centers, through Sept. 10.

This campaign, which began during the COVID-19 pandemic, aims to motivate donors to give blood in the summer months. New Jersey Blood Services said August “is a historically challenging time” for blood supply, with schools closed and families on vacation.

“Unfortunately, blood donations in the region have still not returned to pre-pandemic levels as fewer schools, businesses and organizations are hosting blood drives,” said NJBS.

Grasshopper Too, at 26 Erie Avenue, is the local establishment participating in Wayne. And it appears to be the only Passaic County place on the list, though there are partner breweries around North Jersey.

All NJBS/New York Blood Center donor centers, and “most blood drives,” are participating in the campaign, according to the blood service organizations.

Beer vouchers will be good until Oct. 31; blood donors cannot redeem them on the same day of their donation.

“The ‘Pint for Pint’ campaign began when New Jersey’s restaurant industry was suffering due to the COVID-19 pandemic and despite their hardships, breweries supported New Jersey Blood Services by donating beverages to get more people to donate blood,” said Andrea Cefarelli, Senior Vice President of New Jersey Blood Services. “We were grateful for their support then and we continue to be in awe of their generosity today. We urge donors to take advantage of this fun summer campaign that allows them to save lives and support local businesses.”
