LOGAN – Football teams from the two schools won’t meet on the gridiron this year, but the annual “Blood Battle” between Utah State and Weber State continues for the 20th year, beginning Tuesday.
This “competition” was created to support the American Red Cross in the form of a blood drive to gather the most life-saving donations.
From Sept. 5-8 units collected in the Taggart Student Center Lounges will count toward USU’s goal to reach 415 units of blood, potentially enough to save 1,200 lives.
There will also be a one-day drive at the USU Eastern Campus in Price on Wednesday.
Utah State is encouraging community members along with students, faculty and staff to donate blood. Appointments run from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily but volunteers will also help walk-ins.
Event host, USU’s Christensen Office of Social Action, is also encouraging on-campus clubs and other organizations to invite their members to donate in the organization’s name.

This annual competition started in 2004 and USU has won each of the last four years.
