Blood Wiped On His Victim, Shorewood Officers Attacked: Complaint

SHOREWOOD, IL — A 48-year-old Shorewood man now faces 10 criminal charges following his arrest in which Will County prosecutors say Gregory Petrusich attacked a woman at a house on West Balmoral Drive and then tried to harm multiple officers from Shorewood’s Police Department as they tried to arrest him.

Petrusich’s violent behavior took place Sept. 3, according to the Will County State’s Attorney Office. Petrusich is charged with three counts of aggravated battery, four counts of resisting arrest and three counts of domestic battery.

The criminal complaint for the Shorewood man indicated Petrusich shoved a woman multiple times, and he wiped his blood on her during the Sept. 3 attack.

Most of his charges resulted from Petrusich’s behavior toward the Shorewood police force, court records show. Petrusich shoved officer Cody Evans in the arm, kicked Evans in the leg and attempted to pull away from the officer, the complaint outlined.

Petrusich also tensed up his arm in front of his body toward arresting officer James Welsh, and he pulled away from Officer Eric Briseno as Briseno tried to put him into the squad car, prosecutors noted. Petrusich pushed back against Shorewood Sgt. James Butcher and kicked Butcher in the leg, the complaint noted.

According to Will County court records, Petrusich’s bail was set at $25,000 and his mother in Channahon posted the necessary 10 percent to regain her son’s freedom on Sept. 6.

As part of his bond, Petrusich must have no contact with the woman he is accused of attacking, and he must stay away from his house on West Balmoral Drive, court records show. Petrusich was also ordered to obtain a SCRAM (Secure Continuous Remote Alcohol Monitor) device upon his release from Will County’s Jail.

He also has to undergo a drug and alcohol evaluation, according to court records.

Petrusich’s next hearing is set for Sept. 26 before Will County Judge Dave Carlson in Courtroom 405. Court records indicate that Petrusich has retained private counsel, attorney Douglas DeBoer of North Ottawa Street in downtown Joliet.
