Community Blood Center receives strong support at blood drive

A strong turnout helped the Community Blood Center receive a generous amount of blood to help those in need Wednesday at New Century Fieldhouse.When the doors opened at noon, donors filled every bed, Community Blood Center Account Manager Kim Clark said.Clark said the blood drive’s goal was 600 pints, adding 98 percent of the blood goes to hospitals throughout 70 counties in Kansas and Missouri.“A lot of people think blood is needed for accidents, but it is also needed for illnesses such as leukemia and sickle cell anemia, childbirth complications and more,” she said.Clark said about half the individuals who…
