BUCYRUS—The following letter was distributed on Wednesday to students and parents in the Wynford School District:
September 12, 2023
Dear Students and Parents,
In our mission to maintain the health and welfare of all members of Wynford High School, we strive to be proactive in addressing concerns. Our purpose in providing you with accurate information is precaution and prevention, not alarm.
While we cannot confirm the origin of the infection, we do know that we have several of our student-athletes who have developed a skin infection. There has been no confirmation that the infection was contracted at Wynford, but we are in the process of sanitizing our locker rooms, restrooms, weight rooms, and classrooms several times daily/nightly with disinfectant designed to eliminate these infections. The areas of the school that may be affected have been and will continue to be sanitized and disinfected. Please be assured that the necessary steps have been taken to prevent further transmission of the infection.
We are working with our team physician, our athletic trainer, our school nurse, and all other personnel directly involved with our students/student-athletes. As well as closely following the guidelines from the OHSAA, NFHS, and CDC for infectious diseases.
Precautionary protocol as outlined by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention includes hand washing or using an alcohol-based hand sanitizer, covering any open skin area such as abrasions or cuts with a clean dry bandage, and avoidance of sharing personal items such as towels, razors or athletic equipment. We also encourage showers, washing all clothes, bedding, and equipment.
If you have any concerns regarding your child’s health, please contact your physician. Of course, questions can also be addressed to the school nurse and/or athletic trainer at 419-562-7828.
