CHEYENNE, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) – The 16th annual Guns n Hoses blood drive took place this week at the Cheyenne public safety office.
“70% of the blood that we collect stays right here in Cheyenne, either going to our VA or to the Cheyenne Regional Medical Center, and with September being childhood cancer awareness month, we wanna just bring attention to that as well, with a quarter of all blood supply going towards cancer patients, this is just a great opportunity to bring awareness,” said Steve Moehr, Account Manager for Vitalant.
The blood drive is hosted annually as a friendly competition between the police and fire departments. As of this afternoon the firefighters took the lead by one point.
“Only 3% of the population donates blood, we would love to see that number jump. It is so easy to donate, the FDA has really loosened up their restrictions, so more and more people couldn’t donate before, can now,” said Moehr.
Vitalant thanks the community for coming out and making the 16th annual guns n hoses blood drive a success.
