October 1 at 11:30 a.m. marks the First LGBTQ+ blood drive in Arizona since new FDA ruling.
The American Red Cross and Our League is hosting the first LGBTQ+ blood drive since the FDA’s new guidelines on evaluating blood donors.
The new guidelines are based on an individual donor assessment instead of sexual orientation.
“Here at the Red Cross, we celebrate the FDA’s new guidelines and consider it to be one of the most significant changes in blood banking history,” shared American Red Cross Executive Director of the Southern Arizona Chapter Courtney Slanaker, in a press release October 1.
She says this is one step closer to becoming a more inclusive blood donation process.
The drive will be from 11:30 a.m until 1 p.m.
