A frightened neighbour told how a blood-splattered man wearing only underwear was seen screaming for help in a Lanark street hours before a body was discovered.
Police were called to a property on Braxfield Terrace at 10pm on Wednesday, October 4. An unidentified man was found dead inside.
Detectives confirmed they are treating the death as suspicious and are following a positive line of enquiry.
One neighbour told the Record how a blood-stained man burst into the street and began screaming for help in the street before emergency services were called.
She said: “We heard him coming out into the street last night and he was standing there in only his boxer shorts covered in blood and screaming for help.
“Then he went back into the house and my neighbour phoned emergency services.
“There must have been a commotion. My motion cameras picked up activity outside through the night.
“When I woke up and looked out the window, there were police all over the street and a house was cordoned off.
“A man had just moved into the house last week but I’d never seen him.”
She continued: “I went outside to speak to the police and they told me someone had been killed and and asked us to stay indoors.
“This is normally a really quiet street and I have kids I send out to play all the time. This makes me think twice.
“You just don’t think something like this would happen so close to your own home. I feel really anxious.”
Police have remained stationed outside the property since the grim find. Images from the scene show forensic officers bagging up evidence.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 10pm on Wednesday, 4 October, police were called to an address in Braxfield Terrace, Lanark.
“Police and Ambulance attended and an as yet unidentified man was pronounced dead.
“The death is currently being treated as suspicious and the investigation to establish the exact circumstances surrounding the death is ongoing. Officers are following a positive line of enquiry.”
