Local veteran organizes blood drive amid national shortage

A hometown hero is teaming up with the Red Cross and American Legion Post 974 to help address the national blood shortage.

Blood supplies are critically low according to the American Red Cross.

Marine Sergeant Paul Shover, a two time Purple Heart recipient, may be retired from service but he is still looking for ways to support his community.

I just wanted to do something to show people that true veterans never stop doing things for their country and community. And what better way to do that then to do blood drives and save peoples lives and help people who are seriously ill get better.

The American Red Cross declared a national blood shortage in September and the Department of Defense says donations are needed for both active duty soldiers overseas and civilians at home.

The blood drive will take place this Saturday from 9 AM to 2 PM at the Fairview Township Fire Company Station 1.
