Community organizations host annual blood drive supporting 14 hospitals

ROCKFORD, Ill. — Multiple organizations will partner for an annual, local blood drive spanning across one community.

The Rock River Valley Blood Center (RRVBC), Holcomb Bank and 102.3 The Coyote host the 14th annual Vein Drain Blood Drive next week.

“We are continually inspired by the unwavering commitment of Holcomb Bank and 102.3 The Coyote to host this annual drive year after year,” said Heidi Ognibene, COO at the Rock River Valley Blood Center.

The RRVBC states donating is simple, and one unit can save up to three lives. Donors receive a t-shirt – while supplies last –, and are entered into a drawing for a $500 gift card.

A food truck will also be on site giving free snacks to donors once they’re finished.

After arriving and registering, the 10 minute process includes donor care specialists taking vitals, an eligibility questionnaire then sitting back and relaxing while giving.

Ognibene continued, “This drive is a testament to the power of our community as it pumps life-saving blood into the 14 regional hospitals we support, including Rochelle Community Hospital.”

For first-time donors, a photo ID is required; a single unit donation is allowed every 56 days.

The drive takes place from noon to 7 P.M. on Oct. 25 at Holcomb Bank, 233 E. Illinois Route 38, Rochelle.

Donors can make appointments online at rrvbc.org, by calling 815-965-8751 or using the myRRVBC app. Walk-ins will also be welcome.
