The Red Cross hosts Halloween costume themed blood drive

EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WEVV) — Donating blood is a selfless act that can save lives, and what better way to make the experience fun and memorable with a costume themed Halloween Blood Drive.

In a partnership with the Red Cross and Velocity Fitness for the Evansville Zombie 5k, everyone came out for their costume-themed blood drive that aimed to make blood donation a hauntingly memorable experience.

44News spoke with Owner of Velocity Fitness, Damien Burge, on the reasoning for this Halloween themed blood drive.

“The purpose is to build more enthusiasm around just the Halloween spirit itself. It’s just a fun more engaging way to have a blood drive, it being a costume theme. And it ropes really well into the Zombie run we have coming up because the theme is, “Don’t give your blood to Zombies, give it to save lives instead,” Burge states.

This event combined the eerie allure of Halloween with the noble act of giving back to the community, as donors  dressed up  in their Halloween costumes.

While the event has a festive atmosphere, the primary goal of the Halloween Blood Drive remains as critical as ever. The blood collected during this event will go on to support hospitals, ensuring an adequate blood supply during this time when accidents and medical emergencies are more common.
