The need for blood during the fall and winter months is great. To provide enough donated blood, Transfiguration Lutheran Church at 14176 N. Fenton Rd., just north of Sagebrush Cantina in Fenton Township, is sponsoring a Community Blood Drive on Wednesday, Oct. 25 from 1:30 to 6 p.m. One in seven patients entering a hospital requires blood products, according to Versiti Blood Center of Michigan, host of this blood drive. Every pint has the potential to save three lives. Blood donations help patients of all ages, including accident and burn victims, heart surgery and organ transplant patients and those who are battling cancer. Donors can get more information and sign up for the Oct. 25 blood drive at Versiti.org, by calling 1-866- MIBLOOD (1-866- 642-5663) or scanning the QR code here with your phone’s camera. In Michigan, 16-year-olds may donate with parental consent, with no age limit for older adults. “We welcome new donors, as well as walk-ins,” said Marlene Leaman, local blood drive chairperson for this TLC event. “However, we encourage people to make an appointment ahead of time to make the process even more convenient.”
