WAYNESBORO- The Waynesboro American Legion Blood Drive on Oct. 5, was a huge success, collecting a record-breaking 13 Double Reds and a total of 91 units of blood. The Red Cross Central PA chapter thanked all of the donors for their generosity and support.
Double Reds are a type of blood donation that allows donors to give twice as many red blood cells in a single donation. This is done by using a special machine to separate the red blood cells from the plasma and platelets. The plasma and platelets are then returned to the donor.
Double Reds are especially needed for patients with sickle cell disease, cancer, and other blood disorders. They can also be used to help patients who have suffered major trauma or surgery.
The next Waynesboro American Legion Blood Drive will be held on December 7th. All donors are welcome and encouraged to give.
