Red Cross seeking ‘critical’ blood and platelet donations as holidays approach; ‘Elf’ merc

The American Red Cross is urging blood and platelet donors to make and keep donation appointments, as the organization is helping hospitals restock necessary blood products ahead of the holiday season.

They need donors of all blood types, especially O blood donors, after late summer and fall saw a significant less amount of donations. Platelet donors are also needed.

Those who want to donate can do so by using the Red Cross Blood Donor App to schedule an appointment, visiting Red Cross’s website, or by calling 1-800-733-2767.

A blood donor card, or a driver’s license, or two other forms of identification are required for people for donors.

As the holidays approach, and in celebration of the 20th anniversary of the movie “Elf,” those who donate anytime from Nov. 10 through Nov. 30 will receive an exclusive pair of “Elf” + Red Cross socks while supplies last.

The Red Cross is also looking for volunteer blood donor ambassadors.

These ambassadors help greet, check in, and thank blood donors.
