Metro Detroit’s weather forecast for Halloween is calling for more trick than treat, according to the National Weather Service.
Temperatures are expected to be cold for the week, but even chillier on the day little ghosts and goblins are hunting neighborhoods for candy and sweets. There’s a chance of snow showers, according to the weather service, though no accumulation is likely.
On Monday, the work week kicks off in Detroit with rain moving out of the area and leaving partly cloudy skies with a high temperature of 45 degrees. The normal high temperature in Detroit on Oct. 30 is 56 degrees, the agency records said.
For Halloween, meteorologists with the agency predict Detroit’s high temperature will drop to 41 degrees. They warn wind chills in the region may dip into the upper- to middle-20s Tuesday evening.
The normal temperature in Detroit on Oct. 31 is 56, according to weather service data. The warmest Halloweens on record were in 1933 and 1950 with a high temperature of 79 degrees. The coldest was in 1917 when the high temperature reached only 34 degrees.
They are also calling for a chance of snow showers in the evening when kids are trick-or-treating.
If snow showers do arrive, officials said, snow likely will not accumulate. Any snowfall will only stick to grassy surfaces because of the warm ground, they said. The best chance of snow showers will fall west of U.S. 23 or Interstate 75, they added.
Temperatures for the rest of the week will remain in the low- to mid-40-degree range until Friday when the mercury climbs into the low 50s and stays there over the weekend.
