What is plasma?
Plasma is the part of your blood that carries platelets, red blood cells and white blood cells around the body.
It contains antibodies, known as immunoglobulins, which fight infection.
Plasma makes up approximately 55% of your blood.
Antibodies are made into live-saving medicines to save and transform lives.
How does plasma become a medicine?
Donated plasma is collected at our 3 plasma donation centres in Birmingham, Reading and Twickenham.
It’s tested and stored, lots of donations are combined, before live-saving antibodies are extracted to produce the medicines that save and transform lives.
How plasma helps.
Over 17,000 people in England rely on plasma medicines. These medicines can treat over 50 different conditions and the demand for plasma is growing.
If you live in Birmingham, Reading or Twickenham, we need you to donate plasma.
