Versiti Blood Drive Bus stopping at UpNorthLive

LEELANAU COUNTY, Mich. (WPBN/WGTU) — You can give the gift of life by donating blood at the UpNorthLive studio Thursday, November 30.

The Versiti Blood Drive Bus will be parked at UpNorthLive from 1:30-6 p.m.

The holiday season is typically a time when fewer people donate and the need for blood increases.

Someone needs blood every 2 seconds.

Right now, Versiti is in need of the following blood types: O+/O-, A+/A-, B+/B-

O- blood can be used in transfusions for any blood type.
O- blood is the universal blood type needed for emergency transfusions and for immune deficient infants.
Type O + blood is given to patients more than any other blood type, which is why it’s considered the most needed blood type.
A+ blood is in high demand, because it is presence in a large percentage of the population.
A- blood can be given to anyone with a blood type of A or AB regardless of the positive or negative, however if you have A negative blood you can only receive A- or O- blood.
B+ blood can be given to both B+ and AB+ patients.
B- blood can be given to both B and AB patients. Less than 2% of the population has B- blood
