Students organize blood drive at Seneca High School to help with shortage

Earlier this year, the American Red Cross declared a national blood shortage. Even now, they say there is a critical need for blood donors. The American Red Cross says every two seconds, someone in the U.S. needs blood. Students at Seneca High School stepped up to help meet this need. Sofia Fernandez and Ben Williams partnered up to organize a blood drive at their school. Both are in the school’s Allied Health Program, which lets them explore careers in the medical field. They say this helped spark their interest in helping. “It’s being the change that everyone talks about,” Williams said. “I want to change something. It’s not no longer saying it. It’s actually putting the action behind it.”Both encourage people to donate amid the shortage. “Raise your sleeves,” Fernandez said. “You are going to save somebody’s life without doing any hard work.”
