NOVEMBER 2, 2023:
The Blunt Community Blood Drive will be held today (Nov. 2, 2023) from 1:30–5:15pm at the Fire Hall in Blunt (210 N. Main Street).
LifeServe Blood Center– the company that provides the blood and blood products for the Avera medical facilities in South Dakota– will be doing the collections. If you’re interested in donating, contact Juliane Heuertz at 605-280-7364 or go to www.lifeservebloodcenter.org.
LifeServe Territory Representative Abbie Arneson says the strength of the community blood supply is dependent on local donors, businesses and organizations that donate and sponsor blood drives with LifeServe. She says their donations help ensure a steady blood supply for local Avera facilities, including Avera St. Mary’s Hospital in Pierre.
LifeServe Blood Center took over as the sole supplier of all blood and blood products for Avera’s hospitals in South Dakota in January 2022. They also support the Community Blood Bank, which provides blood for the Avera and Sanford medical facilities in Sioux Falls. Vitalant, who was the previous blood supplier for Avera, still holds blood drives across the state. Most of the units they collect are used at medical facilities in the north central and western parts of South Dakota.
