ELIDA, OH (WLIO) – The Elida Future Farmers of America organized a Blood Donor Day with the American Red Cross today.
The group was set up in the Elida High School gymnasium. The 6-and-a-half-hour blood drive provided the opportunity for Elida students and teachers to roll up their sleeves and help make a difference in the nationwide blood shortage.
“Well there’s a national blood shortage and we just want to give back to the community for like helping us and like doing that and we want to give back for all the stuff they do. Well usually like 40 people but we didn’t really hit that goal but there’s been 17 people that signed up but there’s been more walk-ins and stuff which is good,” commented Cara Pack, FFA reporter and sophomore at Elida High School.
According to the American Red Cross, approximately 29,000 units of red blood cells are needed every day just in the United States. For more information on local blood drives, visit https://www.redcrossblood.org/give.html/find-drive.
