A Rhode Island mother hosted the second annual blood drive in memory of her son.
A blood drive for Gianni Guerrieri was hosted at Exeter-West Greenwich Regional High School Tuesday afternoon in conjunction with the Rhode Island Blood Center.
Gianni and two other young men died in a crash in West Warwick in 2021.
Many came out to donate in his memory.
The mother, Summer Guerrieri, told NBC 10 last month that she hosts this blood drive because her son was passionate about blood donations after he needed multiple blood transfusions himself.
“He was burned at a sleepover,” Guerrieri told NBC 10 in October. ” He was in the hospital for 32 days. He had to receive several transfusions when he was in the hospital and that was in 2012 and after that, as soon as he was old enough he began donating on a regular basis.”
The blood drive runs from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m.
