Blood drives to celebrate blood donor eligibility expansion

REHOBOTH BEACH, Del. – The Blood Bank of Delmarva announced on Thursday that it will be holding several blood drives in November in celebration of  the recent FDA guidance that establishes a blood donor screening process based on individual donor assessment, not sexual or gender identity.

The first drive in this series will take place at CAMP Rehoboth on Saturday, Nov. 11 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

“For decades, we have strongly advocated for scientifically-based changes to the FDA policies regarding gay and bisexual men and this recent decision by the FDA is a huge step toward making blood donation more inclusive,” says Blood Bank of Delmarva Vice President Emily Cunningham. “We welcome these new donors to our centers and blood drives.”

The Blood Bank says all donors will get a free t-shirt that says “We all bleed the same.”

Appointments can be booked online donate.bbd.org or by calling 1-888-8-BLOOD-8.
