‘Blood doesn’t make you family’: Author, advocate marks National Adoption Day

For nearly 25 years, hundreds of courts across the country have opened their doors the Saturday before Thanksgiving to finalize and celebrate adoptions from foster care.

Former child welfare social worker Kimberly Purnell Moody, a two-time adoptive parent, knows that before that can happen, families must open their hearts to children who need homes. So the author, speaker and advocate is spending National Adoption Day inviting people to meet over coffee and talk about the possibility of growing their families through adoption.
