LASHES’ “Call Me When You Land” is an infectious look at the clarity of appreciation

LASHES’ “Call Me When You Land” is an infectious slice of electro-pop that explores the complexities of past relationships, encapsulating the Melbourne-based artists ability to blend catchy melodies with thoughtful lyrics.

LASHES opens up about a previous romance, sharing, “I wrote ‘Call Me When You Land’ about a previous relationship,” LASHES says about the inspiration of her song. “We tried time and time again to make it work but we couldn’t get it right. We had such a great friendship, but we magnified the worst parts of each other. Boundaries were pushed, warning signs were ignored and we ran it into the ground.”

Teaming up once again with producer Michael Belsar, LASHES has created a landscape that is refreshing, which initially had a creative processes beginning during a mid-2022 studio session, where LASHES and Michael experimented with different instrumental elements. “We wanted it to be a feel-good song,” LASHES says. “Like you’re hanging your head out the car window.”

The production of the song sees LASHES and Michael choosing to layer a synth guitar and an old electric guitar, with LASHES delivering a complete experience across the songs runtime. Collaborating with photographer Martin Wood for the visuals, she aimed for a behind-the-scenes feel that matches the up-beat track. “We wanted the visualiser to have a behind the scenes feel to it – less polished but with more personality to match the up-beat track,” LASHES continues. “The artwork was shot on an old polaroid camera with expired film, so all of the discolouration and marks over the photos were at random. I think they came out pretty cool!”

“Call Me When You Land” follows the success of her previous release, “Make Your Move,” also produced with Michael. This song is evident that LASHES is on a roll, consistently delivering feel-good anthems that blend relatable storytelling with catchy beats; which is no secret as to why Eat This Music is a fan of her music.
