Prosecutors are asking for a 97-month — more than 8-year — sentence of 33-year-old Jack Wade Whitton Jr. of Georgia who was caught on video attacking police officers and posted a photo on Instagram of blood on his hands from one of them following the Capitol riot on January 6, 2021.
“This is from a bad cop. Yea I fed him to the people. Idk [I don’t know] his status. And don’t care tbh [to be honest],” read Whitton’s Instagram caption in which he bragged about injuring an officer.
According to an account of his crimes in the case against him, he also struck the riot shield of an officer of the Metropolitan Police Department as he yelled: “You’re gonna die tonight!”
Whitton pleaded guilty last year to engaging in physical violence in a restricted building or grounds with a dangerous weapon.
Prosecutors are also seeking a $61,000 fine on top of the sentence for Whitton, which was first reported by the Atlanta Journal Constitution (AJC).
Photos and videos of Whitton on the Capitol’s Lower West Terrace show him bashing police officers with a metal crutch and dragging an injured officer, according to the AJC.
