In the absence of contrary information from the individual, it is advisable to assume that someone with a back injury may also have a neck injury.
Begin by positioning a board, such as a door or table leaf, adjacent to the person. Ideally, the board should extend beneath the buttocks to the feet and above the head. Ensure the head remains aligned with the body, and gently logroll the person toward you. Slide the board beneath them, facilitating a smooth transition onto it. If the individual is experiencing vomiting, place them on one side while maintaining head support.
To effectively immobilize the person, secure them to the board using a rope, shirt, belt, or strips of cloth at the ankles, legs, chest, and across the forehead. The ties should be snug enough to restrict movement but not to the extent of impeding circulation or breathing. Enhance comfort and stability by placing towels, sweaters, or pillows around the person, especially alongside the head and neck. Once immobilized, proceed to move the person carefully to a safe location.
