Wednesday, August 2nd: Town of Brookhaven Partners with New York Blood Center to Reach It’s 3,000th Donation

New York Blood Center (NYBC) will be hosting a blood drive with the town of Brookhaven on Wednesday, August 2nd from 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. at Brookhaven Town Hall (1 Independence Hill, Farmingville, NY).

The town of Brookhaven has been a long-time partner of NYBC, sponsoring blood drives for many years. Their goal for this blood drive is to collect over 3,000 blood donations and the blood drive will have cupcakes and decorations in celebration of the donors. The 3,000th donor will receive a summer themed basket and each presenting donor will receive a McDonald’s voucher and a chance to win 6 New York Mets tickets.

Blood donors can give every 56 days, and platelet donors can give twice per month.  The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recently lifted eligibility restrictions for individuals who lived in Europe during certain periods of time. To view current eligibility guidelines, visit nybc.org or call 800.688.0900.

It only takes one hour to donate, and a single donation can save multiple lives. Roughly one in seven hospital admissions require a blood transfusion. Those in need include: cancer patients, accident, burn, or trauma victims, newborn babies and their mothers, transplant recipients, surgery patients, chronically transfused patients suffering from sickle cell disease or thalassemia, and many more.

To make an appointment at this blood drive, donors can call 1-800-933-2566 or visit this link. Can’t donate blood? You can still support NYBC’s mission by texting ‘NYBC’ to ‘20222’ to give $25.
