American Legion Post 14 plans blood drive

COEUR d’ALENE — Community members can roll up their sleeves and help combat the local blood supply shortage when American Legion Post 14 hosts a blood drive later this month.

The blood drive is from noon to 2:30 p.m. Aug. 16 at Mountainview Bible Church, 2215 N. Seventh St.

Blood donations tend to dwindle in the summer months, especially around holidays. But injuries and illness requiring blood transfusions don’t take the summer off.

Someone in the U.S. needs blood or platelets every two seconds, according to the American Red Cross. A single car accident victim can require as many as 100 units of blood.

To sign up for the blood drive in advance, call Post 14 at 208-699-6540 or visit www.vitalant.org.
