Local hospital calls on donors amid national blood shortage

SPOKANE, Wash. — A nationwide blood shortage has one local hospital raising the alarm. 

“As we get into the summer season, we catch up on a lot of elective surgeries that were postponed that sometimes have blood requirements, but summer is trauma season and that is when we anticipate having a higher utilization of blood,” said Dr. Dan Getz, Chief Medical Officer for Providence Inland Northwest.
