SCC, Vitalant host blood drive

Sierra Conservation Center (SCC) hosted a staff blood drive for the first time in more than 15 years. The blood drive was a first-time partnership with Vitalant Blood Donation, Sacramento. SCC staff collaborated to coordinate the event.

SCC registered 43 participants with 26 being first-time donors. The institution had an initial goal to collect 36 pints of blood. In the end, they collected a total of 42 pints.

Every blood donation has the potential to save up to three lives. According to Vitalant, staff donated enough blood to save as many as 126 lives.

“I received a text message from Vitalant advising me my recent blood donation was sent to a hospital to help a patient. It was nice to see my donation used quickly. I am happy I donated and am making a difference in someone’s life,” said Capt. Ricardo Jauregui.

Warden Smith approved the event without hesitation and is a huge supporter of the blood drive. 

“Hopefully this is the first of many more blood drives to come,” said Warden Smith
