Kentucky Blood Center Officials looking for donors to attend upcoming blood drive

The Kentucky Blood Center is looking for people to help meet the constant need for blood at their upcoming blood drive. Officials from the KBC said a slight uptick in COVID-19 cases and an expected high need during the Labor Day holiday are factors in the current level of blood supply.

Shera Moulton, KBC’s Donor Recruitment Specialist, said with the generosity of donors a wide range of vital treatments are possible in Kentucky hospitals.

“When you donate blood, you have the ability to save three people’s lives. Transplant patients, people in accidents, cancer patients who use blood products. There’s lots and lots of different types of people that use blood products that come from their donation,” said Moulton.

As with most KBC blood drives, donors will get a thank you gift for their time and donation.

“A teal colored T-shirt, that everybody that registers will receive, and they also get a five-dollar Starbucks gift card for just registering,” said Moulton.

The shirt being offered reads “Blood is Red, Grass is Blue, I Save Lives, How ‘Bout You”.

Moulton said summer blood drive turnout was great, but they could always use more donations, especially now that fall is around the corner.

The blood drive will take place in the Adron Doran University Center Ballroom at Morehead State University on Monday, September 11 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., and Tuesday, September 12 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
