Infectious Disease Expert Recommends Getting Flu Shot In October – ButlerRadio.com

It’s that time of year when respiratory viruses start to circulate more and more.

Many opt to get a flu shot in order to provide a level of protection against severe disease.

Butler native and infectious disease expert Dr. Amesh Adalja encourages everyone eligible to receive a flu shot, but he recommends waiting a little bit before getting one.

“We usually recommend that people get their vaccine for flu in October because we want to make sure they last throughout the season,” Adalja said. “So even though flu vaccines are available now, I would probably hold off until October unless you can’t get there during that month.”

Flu shots are readily available at doctor offices and local pharmacies.
