Pune: Shortage Of ICU Beds In Hospitals As Viral Infection Cases On Rise

Pune 2nd Oct 2023: The city and rural parts of the district have been witnessing a spike in viral infection cases over the last few days due to which majority of the hospital including government and private hospitals are running full of capacity and they are witnessing shortage of beds to admit a new patient in the ICU facility. This according to officials is the situation reported at the majority of hospitals which have a good number of ICU beds and other facilities for treatment.

Last week, a man holding a saline bottle in hand due to the absence of vacant beds at a sub-district government hospital in Bhor was spotted after which the local medical staff of the hospital blamed the increasing number of cases with cold and flu complaints. The officials said that the number of patients at the Out Patient Department (OPD) have increased in the last few days. As a result, the number of patients that require hospitalisation has also increased.

The city and district has witnessed a surge in Dengue cases in the last few days. It may be noted that the majority of hospitals in the city have increased their bed capacity during the COVID pandemic as a large number of patients were admitted for treatment during that period.
