Community Blood Center is hosting Elijah’s Blood Drive

St. Joseph, MO; The Community Blood Center is currently hosting a blood drive from October 1st to October 8th in honor of Bode Middle School student Elijah. Elijah is a 12-year-old boy who is currently battling with Leukemia and is often a recipient of blood products in the St. Joseph community.

During this time of the year there has been a recent occurrence of blood supply shortage causing other children just like Elijah to not have the blood products needed. The Community Blood Center Manager Christa Leyland explained why the blood supply has seen a shortage in the past few months. “The blood shortage was a small result in simply finding the right blood types for the patients that need it like Elijah does”.

The Blood drive will give Elijah a chance to have a blood transfusion and Elijah’s Mother Cassaundra Zerr expressed how important this is to him. “The blood really saves his life, and he has times where he doesn’t have any energy”. Cassaundra is hoping for the blood drive to have a successful turnout and possibly end the blood supply shortage.
