Horrified locals spot man ‘practically naked & covered in blood’ before body found

STUNNED neighbours have told how they saw a man covered in blood shortly before another male was found dead inside a house just yards from a primary school.

Police have described the death of the man – who has yet to be formally identified – as “suspicious”.

The grim discovery was made in Lanark, Lanarkshire on Wednesday evening.

Locals on Braxfield Terrace have been left shocked by the tragedy with one describing how he saw another male aggressively roaming the streets.

One neighbour said: “I was coming back from the shops in the car with my mum.

“A guy was on the street practically naked and had blood all over him.

“He came towards the car to try and speak to us. I said to him we weren’t who he was looking for, I was trying to protect my mum.

“He turned around and was really angry, shouting and swearing. I could tell he was full of adrenaline.

“We then just parked up and got in the house.”

The street, which overlooks the popular New Lanark Visitor Centre, was cordoned off.

Uniformed cops guarded the road with only residents allowed the pass through after signing in and out.

Forensics officers in white suits were seen coming and going from a house where the man is understood to have been found.

Detectives were also sat waiting in an unmarked car waiting to catch locals they were still to speak to.

Another neighbour said: “I saw a guy trying to open the doors of cars parked in the street.

“I think he was trying to get away from the scene.”

They added: “This has been the talk of the steamie. There’s a lot of kids around here which makes it even more scary to happen on your doorstep.”

Officers are understood to know the identity of a possible suspect.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 10pm on Wednesday, 4 October, police were called to an address in Braxfield Terrace, Lanark.

“Police and Ambulance attended and an as yet unidentified man was pronounced dead.

“The death is currently being treated as suspicious and the investigation to establish the exact circumstances surrounding the death is ongoing.

“Officers are following a positive line of enquiry.”
