NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (KNOP) – A North Platte man was honored on Monday morning after donating blood for more than 30 years.
Sherman Hirsch, 93, was honored at the American Red Cross Blood Donation Center and Platelet Donation Center. Hirsch has donated over 800 times, which equals to more than 1,500 units of blood.
Hirsch was inducted into Fresenius Kabi’s National Blood Donation Hall of Fame for exemplary commitment to donating blood and/or encouraging blood donation. Fresenius Kabi is a global health care company that specializes in injectable medicines and technologies for infusions and transfusions.
This year marks the 25th anniversary of the Hall of Fame. Hirsch, a Korean War Veteran and retired school administrator, joins 12 inductees this year.
“I was the administrator to the school just north of town, K-8, and I would come in after school and donate and we would all gather around and watch TV together,” said Hirsch.
Hirsch has also been a member of the Buffalo Bill Kiwanis for over 15 years.
