ERIE — During November, Community Blood Bank will begin its “Double your Difference” campaign. Anyone donating blood at any location or Erie Donor Center, will receive a CBB winter hat. In addition, for every donor in November, Community Blood Bank will donate winter hats to local shelters within the community.
Blood shortages can lead to delayed treatments, increased risks during childbirth and inadequate supply for individuals with blood disorders or other conditions requiring regular transfusions.
Every blood donation has the potential to save multiple lives, making it a critical and invaluable contribution to the well-being of the community. All blood types are needed, especially type O negative blood which helps meet the immediate needs of patients.
“We encourage anyone who is able to donate to consider checking out our mobile events or schedule an appointment at our Erie location,” Andrea Sprickman, Community Blood Bank community relation specialist, said. “There is an extreme shortage of our blood supply, and any donation can make a world of different for those in need.”
The next mobile blood bank events in the Corry area will be Tuesday, Nov. 7 at Cambridge Springs Public Library, 158 McClellan St., from 2 to 6 p.m. and Barnes Industry, 226 S. Center St., from noon to 5 p.m.
Blood donations can also be made at the Erie Donor Center, 2646 Peach St., Erie. The Erie center is open
Monday, Thursday and Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Tuesday and Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and the first and third Saturday of the month from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Community Blood Bank partners with hospitals in Northwest Pennsylvania and Western New York to provide blood for patients in need. Anyone interested in donating must be at least 17 years of age, weigh a minimum of 110 pounds and be in good general health to be eligible to donate blood. Donor must also have a valid photo ID, to donate. Prior to donating, those giving blood should eat a solid meal.
