That’s why Ohio State University’s Wexner Medical Center and Lima Memorial Health System have again teamed up to organize their Heart Summit. The summit is designed to provide physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals with the latest cutting-edge information on managing and treating cardiovascular disease. Presenters discussed topics such as diet, heart failure, and valve replacement procedures, highlighting how the treatment of heart disease is constantly evolving.

Medical practitioners are exposed to the latest best practices and knowledge that their colleagues are encountering.

“Heart disease is a common cause of disease in the body and it causes multiple conditions and atrial fibrillation and other cardiomyopathy and other conditions. It also has impacts on people’s quality of life and survival. What we noticed over the last few years is that emerging treatment and management has made a big difference on quality of life,” explained Mahmound Houmsse, MD, a clinical cardiac electrophysiologist.

One way Lima Memorial and Ohio State have improved the quality of their patients’ lives is by using the Watchman device, an FDA approved device proven to reduce stroke risk.
