Siouxlanders donate blood for the chance to win a helicopter ride

SIOUX CITY (KTIV) – It takes a dedicated person to donate blood the day after Thanksgiving, when many are lounging at home recovering from food comas.

For Ron Isaacson, it’s a no-brainer to donate. After all, he’s donated about 33 gallons of blood since the 1980s. Those who donated Friday were entered into a contest to win a flight with Air Wings Rescue or other prizes.

LifeServe wanted to turn Friday into a “day of giving,” and the phlebotomists tell KTIV the campaign worked, with about 50 people scheduled to donate. On a normal day, they say they’d see about 23.

”You know, blood is a product that everybody needs and if you can do it, you know donate because it can always be put into use,” said Isaacson.

Those who donated Friday also received a tabletop bag toss game. Those who didn’t win the helicopter ride were also entered into a contest to win a full-size bean bag toss game.
