LifeSouth giving incentives to blood donors this holiday

This year, people who donate will receive a $20 eGift card redeemable at the retailer of your choice.

MADISON, Ala. — Giving Tuesday is November 28 and LifeSouth is looking for blood donors this holiday season. LifeSouth says a decrease in donations could cause the blood supply to drop to emergency levels and that they need more donors to maintain a stable blood supply for victims of accidents, surgery patients or those being treated for cancers and other illnesses.

People who donate will receive a $20 eGift card redeemable at the retailer of your choice. For an additional $20 eGift card, people can donate platelets, plasma or a double red cell donation. All donors also receive a mini-physical, including blood pressure, temperature, iron level and cholesterol screen. Gift cards will be available through the end of November.

If you plan on donating, you must be at least 17 or 16 with parental permission, weigh a minimum of 110 pounds and be in good health. Photo ID will be required. For additional information about donation or to find a blood drive near you, call LifeSouth toll-free at 888-795-2707 or visit www.lifesouth.org to make an appointment.

LifeSouth is a non-profit community blood bank that serves more than 125 hospitals in three states. Alabama has 65 of those hospitals. LifeSouth’s donor center in Madison is located at 8190 Madison Blvd and bloodmobiles will also be out at many locations in coming days.
